Pushing Boundaries: The Ultimate Civic Drift Build
Honda Civics have always been known for their lightweight chassis, rev-happy engines, and front-wheel-drive agility—but this EK Civic is something else entirely.
The Drift EK project is about taking the Civic platform to extremes—converting a 1996 Honda Civic (EK chassis) to rear-wheel drive with a twin-turbocharged J32 V6, pushing 700+ horsepower, and creating a fully capable competition-spec drift machine. This isn’t just a conversion—it’s a complete transformation.
This isn’t just about throwing an engine swap into a Civic and calling it a drift car. The goal is to engineer a high-horsepower, fully balanced, and competitive RWD Civic drift build—one that shreds tires, holds huge angles, and dominates the track while still embracing its Honda heritage.
The Vision: What the Drift EK is All About
Building a rear-wheel-drive, 700+ horsepower EK Civic is no small challenge, but the plan is clear:
✅ RWD Layout – Full conversion from FWD to RWD, including a proper rear subframe setup.
✅ 700+ Horsepower – Twin-turbocharged J32 V6, built to handle high-speed drifting.
✅ Chassis Tuning for Drift – Steering angle mods, proper weight distribution, and purpose-built suspension.
✅ Custom Quick-Change Rear Differential – Allowing for easy gearing adjustments for different tracks.
✅ Custom Widebody Kit – Designed from scratch, 3D-printed, and produced in carbon fiber or carbon/Kevlar.
✅ Purpose-Built for Competition – Designed for proper, full-angle drifting, not just parking lot slides.
This is about creating something unprecedented—a Civic that rips through corners, carves perfect drift lines, and redefines what’s possible with an EK chassis.

Powertrain: Twin-Turbo V6 Meets RWD Perfection
A front-wheel-drive Civic with a rear-wheel-drive twin-turbo V6? That’s exactly what the Drift EK is becoming. The powertrain setup is designed for brutal acceleration and maximum tunability.
What’s Under the Hood?
- Engine: Twin-Turbo J32 V6 – A “big displacement”, torque-heavy Honda V6, built to deliver serious power.
- Transmission: Built S2000 6-Speed Manual – A race-proven transmission capable of handling the power.
- Quick-Change Rear Differential – Allowing for fast gear ratio changes depending on track conditions.
- Rear Subframe Conversion – Strengthened and optimized to handle drifting abuse and torque loads.
- Boost Control & Tuning – Adjustable power delivery, ensuring control at every angle.
This isn’t just a drift car—it’s a fully engineered, high-power Civic drift machine.
Chassis & Suspension: Built for Maximum Drift Control
Converting a Civic to RWD is one thing—making it actually drift predictably, smoothly, and consistently is another.
How the Suspension Will Be Set Up
✅ “Custom OEM” Front Suspension for More Angle – Increased steering angle, proper Ackermann tuning, and quick transitions.
✅ Rear Subframe Fabrication – Strong enough to handle drifting abuse.
✅ Weight and Balance Adjustments – With a V6 swap, careful placement of components is crucial.
✅ Coilovers & Angle Kit – Properly tuned for initiation, control, and high-speed transitions.
Drifting isn’t just about just having power—it’s about chassis control, balance, and predictability. The Drift EK will be built to hold big angles, transition effortlessly, and stay in total control throughout every slide.
Interior: Stripped Down & Driver-Focused
Since drifting is all about driver control, the Drift EK will feature a minimalist, motorsport-focused interior.
- Full Bucket Seats & Harnesses – Keeping the driver locked in at full opposite lock.
- Aftermarket Steering Wheel with Quick Release – More control and easy entry/exit.
- Hydraulic Handbrake – Essential for drift initiations.
- Minimalist Dashboard Setup – Removing non-essential weight while keeping it functional.
- Weight Reduction Where It Makes Sense – No unnecessary interior trim.
This will be a true driver’s car, focused on seat time, control, and maximizing performance without unnecessary distractions.
Exterior: Custom Widebody & Aerodynamics
A drift build needs presence—but the Drift EK will take things further with a one-off, 3D-printed widebody kit, later molded into carbon fiber or carbon/Kevlar panels for lightweight strength.
Planned Exterior Setup:
✅ Bespoke Widebody Kit – Fully custom-designed and produced using 3D printing & composite materials.
✅ Aerodynamic Enhancements – A mix of functional downforce and aggressive drift styling.
✅ Drift-Spec Wheels & Fitment – Staggered setups for optimal performance.
✅ Livery & Color Theme TBD – Built to be eye-catching and performance-driven.
✅ Cooling & Ventilation Mods – Keeping temps in check for extended drift sessions.
This isn’t a garage queen show car—this is a functional, aggressive drift weapon, built to tear up tracks and turn heads.

Custom body being designed that will be fully 3d printed and transformed into molds to create the composite/carbon kevlar body panels.
What’s Next?
The Drift EK is an ambitious project, but the pieces are coming together. What’s next for the build?
✅ Finalizing the widebody kit design & fabrication process.
✅ Dialing in the drivetrain fitment & quick-change differential setup.
✅ Engineering the rear subframe conversion for proper RWD handling.
✅ Livery & styling choices – Making sure the Drift EK looks as aggressive as it drives.
The goal is simple: Build the first Drift EK that doesn’t just drift—but dominates.
